The museum shows how Wahlstedt evolved from a village into a city. Before the Second World War, Wahlstedt had about 750 inhabitants, mostly poor farmers and tradesmen. After the war, most of the buildings were saved from being demolished. Many refugees from the East found new lives in these rooms and so Wahlstedt grew to become a small, industrial city.
