The 'Buddenbrookhaus' is a literature museum in the middle of the historical part of Lübeck. A visit leads you into the world of the 'Buddenbrooks' and the Mann family. The museum was altered in 2000 and got the museum prize of the Council of Europe in 2001. In a modern and vivid way, it presents the life and work of the Mann family in the exhibition "The Manns – a family of writers". The exhibition "The Buddenbrooks - one of the most significant novels of the 20th century" traces the novel at the scene of its action. Exactly in the place where the Mann family inhabited the first floor, the visitor finds the scenery room and the dining room as representation of rooms mentioned in the "Buddenbrooks". Connected to these "novel-themed rooms", an exhibition on the development and significance of the novel is shown. It combines academic precision with a most vivid presentation. In addition to the permanent exhibitions the Buddenbrookhaus offers numerous special exhibitions and a rich programme of literary events.
