Beschreibung
The largest archaeological monument of the region is located in Oldenburg. The “Wall-Museum” presents the results of excavations. On the shore a Slavic harbour with boathouses and the world’s first reconstruction of a Slavic trading vessel can be visited. In addition, the origin and the immigration of the Slavs, their daily life, the former importance of Oldenburg as a residence of rulers and bishops as well as pagan cults and Christian missionary work are shown.

The museum shows the history of the Slavs in Ostholstein. It is housed in several historical farming buildings from the region that were rebuilt to their original state on the property. The exhibition of archaeological artefacts is complemented by an open-air museum of a Slavic village. The life-size reconstruction of a trade ship from the Early Middle Ages is also on display.
