The Geological and Mineralogical Museum belongs to the University of Kiel. A permanent exhibition presents the diversity of crystals, minerals, rocks and fossils. Models and pictures explain their development, their structural design, their technical or ecological significance. Special attention is paid to the geology of Schleswig-Holstein.
The museum building, which is listed for preservation, is flooded by daylight. Along with its glass cases it appears very transparent. The exhibition is completed by large Ice Age deposits from Scandinavia, which are presented in the garden in front of the institute. Changing special exhibitions show interdisciplinary connections. |
