The past of Föhr island comes back to life in the large barn of the Martens-Hof, which was restored 1872 after a fire. Lovingly furnished rooms, presentations of a workshop and a stable, household and farm tools, costumes, textiles, an emigrant’s suitcase, photos of tombstones from Föhr and many keepsakes tell of the pleasures and sorrows, of daily life and festivities of past life in this rural area.
Other sections show the seafaring as economic base of the island, the building of dykes, the abundant fauna and finds from the mud flat. Additionally, annually changing exhibitions are presented. |
